DAWG (Denver Activist Women's Group): Issue 2

There’s time when I start to feel it again, that little glimmer of hope. In this newsletter I have some group updates, including launching our online chat(!!) and for this week’s activism we’re calling our representatives (script included).

Group Updates ⬇️

New name, who this?

Name change alert! Thank you to everyone who filled out the form asking for name suggestions, you all came up with creative names. We did a little poll amongst members of this group and decided upon Denver Activist Women’s Group, DAWG for short. All correspondence going forward will be under this name so keep an eye out. I got that DAWG in me, what about you? 🐶

Group Chat

The time has come! The admin group has been working hard on finding a platform where we can gather and communicate in real-time. Thank’s to Kaci (a member of this group) we now have a place to chat. Here is the link to join the DAWG Discord.

In the Discord chat you’ll find different groups that you are able to join based on your interest. It will be a place for us to chat and create a greater sense of community. The benefits of joining this chat is getting quicker updates on events, sharing important news and talking to like-minded women who are there to support one another.

Upcoming Gathering

Excited to share that the Admin team had a great meeting about our first gathering. We heard that you are looking to do a crafting activity together. We will be having a sign making night at the end of February/early March. Think making protest signs for the next rally all while being with other women who are aligned with you-I’m getting goose bumps thinking about it. Date TBD, we will send out a final date in the Discord.

Call to Action 📣

With the introduction of House Bill H.R.722 (a bill that would amend the constitution to include the right to life to each born and pre-born person, aka could act as a Federal abortion ban) it’s time to call our representatives. I know it’s scary, I know it’s not fun, but it’s time to do it. Take 5 minutes with me and let’s get this done.

As this bill is being introduced to the House, we all have different representatives we need to call. Here is a list of Colorado’s representatives and their phone numbers. And here is a map to tell which district you are in. Here is what you say when you call:

“Hi my name is [your name],

I am a registered voter in Colorado District [your district] and am a constituent of Representative [enter their last name]. I am calling to voice my concern about a new bill introduced to the House.

{they will likely ask you your name and zip code here and then ask what you are calling about}

I want to urge [representatives name] to take a strong stance against House Bill H.R. 722 that was introduced by Representative Burlison. This Bill does not reflect my values as a voter and if passed would affect millions of Americans. I strongly recommend that they oppose this bill, and as a voter I will be following how they vote on this issue.

{they might tell you about how your rep is already working against this, or they might just say ok thank you we have that down}

Thank you for your time and have a good day.”

That’s it! That is all you have to say. Once you’re done calling, send this to them in an email too. Most of us have Democrat reps, who should oppose this bill, but we still need to let them know where we stand. They take a record of every phone call and the more calls we put in, the more they know we are watching them. Pick a time to do this, commit to yourself and commit to other women around the nation.

If you call once, you can call twice. Find me calling Lauren Boebert’s 🤢 and Gabe Evans’ office everyday. I’m not in their district but they need to know my foot is on their neck.
